Chinese Medicine Cupping Therapy and Acupressure.
From a Traditional Chinese Medicine perspective - Chinese fire cupping assists Qi & Blood Flow which aims to move stagnant Qi (life energy) and blood, which TCM sees as the root of pain and imbalance.
Chinese Acupressure is used in place of acupuncture - (using pressure in place of needles) and can assist with muscular tension for local points or specific distal points that relate to specific imbalances in the body for yin/yang balance, increased blood flow or free flow of Qi (life energy).
Traditional Chinese Medicine Fire Cupping and Acupressure.
Cupping Therapy combines stationary cups and moving cups. Stationary cups are held in place for 5 to 10 minutes in which time helps to increase the circulation: The suction draws blood and lymphatic fluid to the treated area, bringing nutrients and removing toxins. Sliding cups uses oil on the skin to allow the cups to slide over the skin at the same time allowing for fascial release during the sliding motion. This lifting action stretches and separates stuck fascial layers, breaking down adhesions and restrictions in the muscle's layers - 'Myofascial Release'. The sensation can be like a pull or stretch which should be strong yet relaxing, however the strength of the 'pull' can be altered.
Temporary circular marks may be visible post treatment and can last up to a week.
During your appointment a combination of stationary and sliding cups may be used along with specific massage techniques and acupressure points depending on what needs to be achieved - this will be dicussed at your appointment.
An initial health form will be completed which will check for any contraindications prior to receiving this therapy - such as if you are taking blood thinners or have a skin infection.
Each appointment is 30 to 45 minutes (depending on the body area) and focuses on certain areas at each appointment such as the back or legs/arms, rather than the whole body undergoing cupping therapy in one session.
* Traditional Chinese fire cupping - this therapy uses glass cups creating 'negative pressure' which is a vaccum inside the cup. By adding fire to a glass cup, it creates negative pressure (a vacuum) through a process of heating, expanding, and rapidly cooling the air inside, which is known as fire cupping.
* Chinese Medicine Acupressure involves pressure using the thumb, finger or a blunt instrument to essentially mimic and take place of acupuncture (needles). Specific acupressure points may be used during your treatment either local to the muscular tension or specific distal points that relate to specific imbalances in the body for yin/yang balance, increased blood flow or free flow of Qi (life energy).
